So we’re gonna find out what's happening with Steven and Ronica.

In the last episode, Ronica was at the doctors’，she was pregnant.

那上一集呢，Ronica在医生诊所，她怀孕了。

But then the doctor told her it was a lie. He made it up. She wasn’t even pregnant.

但后来医生告诉她，这其实是个谎言。他编造的谎言，Ronica根本没有怀孕。

So now let’s see what Steven and Ronica are gonna say to each other.

「重要发音技巧」

Welcome back. Let’s look at some useful pronunciation tips.

欢迎回来。我们来看一些实用的发音技巧。

1.连读+Flap T：What a

   失爆：nut job

对话中：What a nut job!

连读分析：当两个单词相邻时，前一个单词词尾是辅音，后一个单词开头是元音的时候，可以作辅元连读。比如这里的What a /wʌtə/(/t/是辅音，/ə/是元音)。

Flap T分析：连读基础之上，/t/在两个元音音标之间且非重读，所以/t/可以读为一个很轻的/d/, 可以读为/wʌdə/。

失爆分析：当两个单词相邻时，前一个单词词尾是爆破音，后一个单词开头是辅音，这时前面的爆破音不发出声音，稍作停顿。比如这里的nut job /nʌtdʒɑːb/（/t/为爆破音，/dʒ/为辅音，所以可以读为/nʌtdʒɑːb/）。

复述：What a nut job!

2.失爆：What can

   连读：can I

对话中：What can I do?

失爆分析：当两个单词相邻时，前一个单词词尾是爆破音，后一个单词开头也是爆破音，这时前面的爆破音可以不发音，直接省去。比如这里的What can/wʌtkæn/（/t/为爆破音，/k/为爆破音，所以可以读为/wʌkæn/）。

连读分析：两个单词相邻时，出现前单词词尾音标和后面单词开头音标为“辅音+元音“时，可以做辅元连读。比如这里的can I /kænaɪ/ (/n/是辅音，/aɪ/是元音)。

Alright, let’s take a look at some interesting words in our dialogue.

好的，让我们来看看我们对话中有趣的单词。

So, our first word is “insane”.

所以，我们第一个单词是“insane”。

1.insane /ɪnˈseɪn/ adj. 精神失常的

If you say someone is insane, then you are saying he/she is mentally ill，which is serious.

如果你说一个人是insane，就是他/她精神上出了严重的问题。

For example,

She had gone insane.

她发疯了。

insane还常用来表示人的行为/想法是疯狂的，愚蠢的。

It seems insane to agree to the idea.

同意这个想法似乎很疯狂。

Now, let’s take a look at our next word–stalk.

现在，让我们来看看下一个单词——stalk。

2.stalk /stɔːk/ v. 悄悄跟踪

When you stalk someone, you follow them secretly for a long time.

当你悄悄跟踪一个人，你会悄悄地跟着他/她们很长时间。

拓展：

stalk + er = stalker  n.跟踪者

在英语中，有很多像stalk这样的动词，加上单词后缀“-er” 表示“做某事的人”，如：

teach  v. 教

teach + er = teacher  n.老师

这是一个很好的背单词的方法，可以记下来噢。

Let’s move to our third word-nut job.

我们来看第三个单词-nut job。

3.nut job /ˈnʌt ˌdʒɑːb/ n. 疯子

It is informal, which means a crazy person.

这个单词是一个非正式的用法，意思是一个疯狂的人。

It’s a little bit of insulting.

这个单词是有些无礼的，所以我们在使用的时候注意一下。

Okay, I’ll give you an example.

好的，来举个例子。

Many people view him as a nut job.

很多人把他当作疯子看待。

And the fourth word we have is soul mate.

好的，第四个我们来看的单词是soul mate。

4.soul mate /ˈsəʊl meɪt/ n. 灵魂伴侣，知己

Soul mate is a romantic word, which means the perfect person for you.

Soul mate是一个很浪漫的表达，表示那个对你而言最合适最理想的人。

But sometimes you might use “soul mate” with your very very best friend. Because you understand each other.

但是有时候你也可以用来表示你非常非常要好的朋友，因为你们互相理解。

希望每一个你，都可以幸福地说：

I’ve found my soul mate.

Okay, our last word for today-tackle.

5.tackle /ˈtækl/ v. 处理，解决（难题或者局面）

Let me give you some examples of how we can use tackle.

我来举几个关于如何使用tackle的例子。

Example one,

I’ll tackle the difficult problems.

我会解决这些难题的。

Example two,

I’ll tackle the difficult tasks.

我会处理这些困难的任务的。

Alright, let's take a look at some interesting phrases.

Well, I've got three phrases for you.

我有3个短语要来给你讲解。

The first one is show up.

第一个是show up。

1.show up 出现

To show up is to come to a place, to arrive.

show up就是说去到一个地方，出现在那里，到了这个地方。

I think if we listen to some examples, it will help us to understand the meaning of this phrase.

我认为如果我们听一些例子，它会帮助我们理解这个短语的意思。

Example one,

We were waiting for you like an hour, you never showed up.

我们一直等你等了有一个小时，你并没出现。

Example two,

I invited her for the party, but she didn't show up.

我邀请她来参加聚会，但是她没来。

Now, let's take a look at our next phrase, get worked up over nothing.

现在，我们来看看下一个短语，get worked up over nothing.

2.get worked up over nothing 白激动/生气/烦恼一场

为什么是白激动一场呢？我们来看看这个长长的短语

① 首先要讲的是worked up

worked up  adj. 兴奋的，生气的, 烦恼的

It’s an adjective, which means very excited, angry or upset.

worked up是一个形容词，表示很兴奋，很生气，很烦恼。

虽然是一个形容词，但是它不用在名词后面，通常跟在be动词后面，或者和get连用。

Okay, let’s look at some examples.

好的，我们来看一些例子。

Example one,

What is he so worked up about?

他为了什么那么生气？

Example two,

Tom got all worked up over the basketball game.

Tom对那场篮球比赛很兴奋。

② Next，let’s look at “over nothing”

现在我们来看一下over nothing。

Over nothing means for no reason.

Over nothing意思就是没有理由。

For example

You always get angry over nothing. You have such a bad temper.

比如，你总是无缘无故地生气，你脾气真差。

③ get worked up over nothing 白激动/生气/烦恼一场

For example,

You're getting yourself worked up over nothing. I'm sure the doctor will tell you it's nothing.

你就是自己在瞎担心，我相信医生肯定会跟你说没事儿的。

OK, let's look at our last phrase, on purpose.

好的，我们来看最后一个短语，on purpose。

3.on purpose 故意地，有意地

Let me give you some examples.

让我们来看一些例子。

Example one,

Did you break the cup on purpose?

你是有意打破那个杯子的吗？

Example two,

Was it an accident or did Mary do it on purpose?

这是一个事故，还是Mary故意做地？

So, on purpose means doing something deliberately.

所以on purpose就是表示蓄意做某事。
