Xi Zhong, a person from the state of Xue (Today's Tengzhou in Shandong Province), is considered as the ancestor of Xue.
Xi Zhong's invention of the horse-drawn carriage is seen as important as the "Four Great Inventions",which is a great pioneering undertaking in the history of Chinese science and technology.
Xi Zhong's father, Fan Yu, is a great inventor who successfully developed wooden boats.Since a very young age, Xi Zhong had been deeply influenced by his father's passion for science and technology, he learned many skills, and became a famous craftsman in his youth.
After building the wooden boat, his father Fan Yu planned to make carts. However, overwork made him pass away.
Xi Zhong, to continue his father's work, decided to finish the cart to help people in land transportation.
Using his knowledge,XiZhong came up with lots of plans and did a number of experiments, but he didn't succeed.Xi Zhong didn't lose heart in the face of failure;instead, he kept learning and continuing his experiments.
One day, while walking in the countryside, Xi Zhong found an old lady grinding rice with a round stick. Then Xi Zhong had an idea. What if he made
the wheels round and let them roll on flat ground?
Feeling excited, he ran home to begin designing. After a few days of hard work, he finally succeeded!
On the day of the test, two people held the cart, one pushed hard. The
wheels rolled forward, and the crowd cheered.
The news of Xi Zhong's invention spreads quickly to Emperor Yu. EmperorYu was very happy and appointed Xi Zhong as"Che Zheng", the official responsible for carts and transportation.
Later, when Xi Zhong retired and returned to his hometown,Emperor Yu made him the ruler of the state of Xue. For his great contributions,Xi Zhong has been honored as the Ancestor of Cart Making, the God of Carts, and the
Saint of Carts.
